Students, please finish up all assignments due for the 5th marking period and turn files into the drop box. They need to be in by 3:35pm.

If you would like to start the first exercise in Unit 4 you can copy the video and project folder from the server (TM30 Server) or access the video on Youtube. You can also download the project folder here. Then follow these steps.

1. Copy the zip file from your Downloads folder to your Documents folder.
2. Move the zip file into Maya Projects.
3. Unzip the file by double clicking on it.
4. Open Maya
5. Set your project folder: Go to File>Set Project

Assignment 3-23-18

ANIMATION 1:

After you have finished the castle tower tutorial you will create your own original castle scene in Maya.

You can build any kind of castle you like with the tools that you have learned so far in Unit 01. My recommendation would be to start with a large object in the center of your scene with translate X and translate Z set to 0 in the channel box.

If the foundation or base of the castle sits in the center of the scene it will be easy to duplicate walls and towers and rotate them around the foundation.

Please help each other out and share information. If you are stuck, find someone in the room who can assist you.

When I return on Monday I expect the castle to be at least 50 percent complete.

ANIMATION 2:

Please start modeling the bear based on the reference images that you drew in Photoshop. If you need to review the extrude tool or edge loop tool there are videos in Unit 11. Otherwise start following along with the cartoon bear video in Unit 12.

Assignment 2/13/18

Hello students. I will be out on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please work on your final project in class. For those of you that have questions, see if you can get another student to help you. Someone in the room will be able to solve your problem. Spend a few minutes and try and find that person. See you all on Thursday.

Assignment 1/29/18

Animation 1: Frog vs Fly Animatic

In this project you will create a simple animatic about a frog and a fly. No need for a detailed background. The fly is just a dot on the screen. The drawing of the frog uses a minimal amount of lines, just enough detail to recognize what it is.

There is only one rule when developing the story for this project: you have to think of a twist in the plot. If the frog simply eats the fly, it would be boring. That's what the audience is expecting. If the fly buzzes from one side of the screen to the other while the frog does nothing that would also be boring. There needs to be a conflict and there needs to be a surprise.

Remember this is an animatic, not full animation. You only have to complete the key drawings you need to tell the story.

Your project settings:
24 fps
1280x720
Length: 5-10 seconds (approximately)

Animation 2: Work on your short film

Please continue working on your short film with your team. I'll be back tomorrow.

Assignments 12/14/17

Hello Students,

I am out today for a professional development session with other FADA teachers. Please see instructions below for your assignments.

Animation 1 - Periods 1, 2, 4, and 6:

Complete your the frog exercise today. Please have another student watch your work at the beginning of class and listen to their feedback. If you have time ask a second person look at it. The most common problem that occurs is that there is no slow in and slow out as the frog reaches the apex. It should be the same as a bouncing ball.
I'd like you to also think about the timing in your project. Make sure the speed of the frog feels natural. This means you should also pay attention to pauses in the action. There should be a pause at the end of the anticipation movement, before the jump starts.

Animation 2 - Period 3:

Please continue to work on character model sheets and revising storyboards. I want to start working on animatics next week! Use your time wisely.
